The entrance is located near the Togetsukyo Bridge, and from there, visitors must hike uphill for about 20-30 minutes to reach the observation area where the monkeys roam freely. Departs from Arashiyama every hour starting at 10:05 AM with the last train leaving at 4:05 PM.
Return from Kameoka: 4:25 PM
Ticket Booking: Tickets can be purchased online in advance or at the ticket counters at Saga-Arashiyama Station. They tend to sell out quickly, so booking a few weeks in advance is recommended, especially during peak seasons like cherry blossom and autumn foliage. However, even if online tickets are sold out, a limited number of tickets are available for purchase on the day of departure at the station. Please be aware that these can sell out quickly. The train operates from March 1st to December 29th and is typically closed on Wednesdays, unless the Wednesday falls on a national holiday. During peak seasons, such as the cherry blossom period in spring and the autumn foliage season, the train may operate on Wednesdays as well.
Ticket Price: The fare is approximately 880 yen per adult and 440 yen per child (one way).
Best Seating: For the best views of the Hozu river and the gorge, I recommended sitting on the right side of the train when departing from Arashiyama and on the left side when returning from Kameoka. Additionally, consider booking the "Rich Car" for an open-air carriage experience, but note that you may get wet if it rains.
Kimono Forest
End your day with a stroll through the Kimono Forest, an art installation featuring illuminated kimono-patterned pillars. The vibrant colors create a magical atmosphere, especially at after dark.
